Feels fabulous to be on the QUEST 2016 and here I am in the snowy Sequoias ! Personally, this is my favorite National Park – simply because it’s easy for me to get to in the center of California and yet it feels way out there with its deep woods and high mountains. In the summer – I love swimming in the fresh water Hume Lake – one of the few National Park lakes that allows public swimming ! Now, in wintertime, I find that I treasure the peace and stillness of this season more than ever. Walking in the solitude of woods newly powdered with snow – renews and refreshes ones spirit. When was the last time you had rosy cheeks and caught snowflakes on your tongue ?
Here in the woods – I am enjoying reading and writing – two forms of communication that are disappearing from our high-tech society. I like reading about trees and the Ways of Nature. I want to learn the names of the trees that surround me and how they have managed to survive hundreds or thousands of years on this weary world.
It was exhilarating to learn for example, that Snow and long periods of cold weather – help destroy the Tree-Killing Beetle that has been devouring thousands of acres trees throughout the state of California. The more I live in snowy environments and read about the benefits of cold winters – the more I happily adapt and take delight in Natures Ways !
This oil painting, “QUEST, Sequoia National Park, California” is the very first piece in the NATIONAL PARK PAINTINGS series. It reveals a radiant sunset reclining behind the mountains with rays of color that stretch across Hume Lake in the foreground. Hopefully, this painting invites you into its refreshing embrace !
